ideas on my subject

I created this blog for my research and design development.

I will be working on on the subject of humans and their disconnection with nature, the environment and each other. Through human’s need for technology and an easier way in which to live, we have become a disconnected society and do not realize to what extent we are affecting the earth and each other.

I want to really focus on the affects of our connections with each and our happiness rather than our recycling, waste and buying habits. Is this a side affect of our disconnected lives?

Do we spend/consume because we are looking for something externally rather than internally? ; love, companionship, happiness, self worth, "CONNECTIONS"

For example, I was in Houston, Texas during Hurricane Ike. I was without electricity, water and any means of contacting anyone, accept for my car, which I had to be sparing as there was no way to get more fuel if I ran out. Because I had no electricity I had no computer, television, lights, no stove as it is electric, my cell phone battery lost power and I had no way of calling anyone, no water, so no means of taking a shower or getting clean drinking water I was very disconnected.

I was in this situation for five days. I really didn't know my neighbors, other than Frank and Joan who lived across the road from us.

During the five days without electricity, water we all came together and shared what we could, food, water, etc. One of my neighbors had a barbecue grill and cooked me and my mother several meals as they knew we had no way of cooking at our home. We all came together in such a strong way and to this day we watch out for each other.

because of these connections i feel like I have somewhere to go if I am alone, scared or need help.

I want to learn more about the affects we will have if we keep disconnecting ourselves physically and spend more and more time alone in our homes, on computers and phones verses in person having that physical connection. We are humans and we desire love, connections with other humans.

We spend a great deal of time watching television, text messaging on our cell phones, playing video games and chatting on the Internet. Technology is a great resource, yet are we losing our ability to communicate with each other in a physical environment?

I will be researching and creating visuals about this subject throughout the following months and posting my finds, thoughts, ideas, etc. on this blog.

Is reconnecting the key to our survival? Have people lost respect for each other and if so than how can they possibly respect the earth if they can not connect with each other?

Are we going to make it? Is it our human nature to destroy ourselves and the precious resources around us for wealth and our desire to have material things?

Is it we don't think we are worth saving?

Are we truly happy?
